The first non-Qualcomm 5G iPhone could be close

For many years, Apple has been trying to bring the production of the key component of iPhones, the 5G control circuit, in-house – now the company may finally be able to do it.

Apple’s first in-house developed 5G modem, which can break the complete dominance of Qualcomm’s controllers in the iPhone product line, may soon be ready for deployment.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with good insight into Apple’s supply chains, published on X in its entry says that in 2025 the first iPhones that do not contain a Qualcomm 5G chip may finally appear – one of them, the iPhone SE4, may debut in the first quarter of next year, while the iPhone 17 series is rumored to be completely redesigned member, an ultra-thin copy may go on sale in the third quarter of next year with the usual timing.

This also shows that regardless of this, Apple and Qualcomm will not separate sharply in 2025, as the two companies signed a three-year supplier agreement last year, which can also be optionally extended, and this gives Apple the opportunity for a gradual transition .

Apple has been working for many years (practically since it bought Intel’s modem manufacturing business in 2019) to put its own modem chips in iPhones, partly due to better design – and lower – costs, and partly due to supply chain and technology for greater control over.
