The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be putting AI to work at the Olympic Games that begin today in Paris. The AI-powered monitoring system, designed to protect athletes from online abuse, was announced by the IOC earlier this year. Hundreds of thousands of social media accounts will be monitored for abusive posts before intervention.
“A very important application is protection against cyber abuse, as we expect around half a billion messages on social media during these Games,” says CEO Thomas Bach. “AI also opens up new avenues for talent identification, and this project should ensure that AI in sports will be accessible to everyone by 2025.”
