More than 3.3 billion crowns have already been bet on the European Football Championship before the quarter-final matches.
Bets thus exceeded the amount of money wagered on this year’s World Hockey Championship held in the Czech Republic and have almost reached the most bet so far on the World Cup in football in Qatar in 2022. The biggest favorite to win is still England, but the odds have also decreased for Spain, which bettors believe in the most. On the contrary, the victory of Portugal, which is supposed to face France, is already less likely. ČTK was informed by the contacted Czech bookmakers.
Tipsport records the largest amount of money bet on Euros, namely 1.8 billion crowns. At Chance, which belongs to the same group as Tipsport, 326 million crowns were bet, i.e. more than the office expected before the start of the championship. Fortuna registers bets for 1.2 billion crowns. All bookmakers still believe that they will break the record from the World Cup in Qatar, when bets were over 3.6 billion crowns. By around 400 million crowns, bets have already exceeded this year’s hockey championship held in Prague and Ostrava. According to Tipsport spokesman Jiří Hadrava, however, it is felt that after the exclusion of the Czech footballers, interest in the championship has generally decreased somewhat. Among other things, bettors also became interested in tennis Wimbledon, which is generally popular, and the Czech Republic has representatives there.
“All the main favorites made it to the quarter-finals of the Euro. So this stage of the competition will offer matches that we could describe as small finals, especially the duels between Spain and Germany and also Portugal and France. The Germans, on their way to the dream home gold, would probably they were able to present a more acceptable opponent. We expect an extremely balanced match, which is why bettors are more reserved, because determining the winner is a real lottery,” added Hadrava.
