Not Harassing Genuine Students: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister and Joint General Secretary of Awami League. Hasan Mahmood said that every incident of recent sabotage will be prosecuted. However, genuine student agitators will not be harassed.

He said this in the speech of the chief guest at the discussion meeting titled ‘Unified resistance against anti-national, anti-independence terrorism and anarchy’ at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.

The foreign minister said that those who killed former Gazipur Mayor Jahangir’s PS and police in Dhaka and hung their bodies, threw Chhatra League workers from a six-story building in Chittagong, burned people and state property, vandalized and set fire to BTV, none of them will be spared from the law. Hasan Mahmud said, after the sabotage in 2013-14, many people were prosecuted, some got away through the loopholes of the law. That won’t happen this time. Every attacker will be brought to justice.

He said that the attack on the state was ordered by BNP’s Tariq Rahman. Tariq Rahman’s voice has come to the hands of the government. He said – if there is a big attack, a big post, break the curfew, if not, leave the post. Another leader of BNP said – you enter the movement, create anarchy. They are the ones who have given the confession of Tk 5,000 if they kill BCL workers and Tk 10,000 if police kill them. Which political party is it? It is an anti-national terrorist organization.

The minister said that Bangladesh Television was established in 1964. But in the last 60 years, BTV has never been attacked and vandalized. Some officers of BTV were killed during the war of independence. But there was never an attack on BTV. Terrorists ransacked the Disaster Management Directorate where people run during disasters. The pride of the people of Dhaka and the people of the country has been ignited by the metro railway station. Foreign ambassadors, high commissioners’ IDs were hacked and false messages were posted.

Regarding the quota in government jobs, Hasan Mahbud said, we have said from the beginning that the matter will be resolved through the Supreme Court. Finally it happened. Students got more than what they asked for. If the students had a little patience, BNP-Jamaat would not have got this opportunity. I firmly believe that no ordinary student can kill people or attack people and state property. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has assured that no student will be harassed. But be careful that no one can use you to achieve evil purposes.
