The Slovenian House in Paris, which will be used to promote Slovenia during the Olympic Games, was visited today by Prime Minister Robert Golob. As he said, they will be proud to present it to foreigners from all over the world, both athletes and non-athletes and everyone who is interested in it. The Slovenian House, located in the Parisian park La Villette, will be officially opened on Saturday.
Pigeon said that Slovenia is an exceptional country that not only has exceptional nature, but also exceptional sportsmen and women. He believes that we will be very proud of them in the coming days. At the same time, he expressed his congratulations to the Olympic Committee of Slovenia and all partners and colleagues who participated in the preparation of the Slovenian House. He added that the government unanimously supported the idea of the Slovenian House. “We agreed that in Paris we have to make the most of this opportunity, not only to get as many medals as possible, but to leave as big a mark as possible,” he invited them.
According to him, we are often proud of athletes when they win medals, but after a month or two we forget about them. “The central topic of the talks with the president of the Olympic Committee was how to approach the needs of athletes after the end of their career by changing the legislation in the tax and pension fields,” he said. With the President of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia Franje Bobinec the government will meet again on this topic in September.
In the afternoon, Golob will also meet with the French president Emmanuel Macron and, among other things, thanked him for his support in investing in the production of a new electric twin in Novi Mesto. “Without President Macron, this signature would not have happened and that is also why I am here in Paris – to personally thank him for his help in this area,” said Golob during his visit to the Slovenian House.
The Minister of Economy also visited the Slovenian House Matjaž Han, who also thanked Slovenian athletes and the Olympic Committee for allowing them to meet at such large and important competitions. Sport opened the door to the world for Slovenia and made it recognizable, he said, and considered that the Slovenian House in Paris is a phenomenon because it is quickly noticed due to its recognizable signs and green color.
“I believe that besides the medals, which are not the most important, besides the good results of the athletes, it is important how we promote Slovenia. And if we can promote it through sports that unite people, we are the best people,” Han said. He added that he will try to ensure that the government gives sports the status it deserves.
Bobinac also addressed the gathering at the Slovenian House and said that the house is an exceptional opportunity to celebrate sports and present Slovenia. In it, during the Olympic Games, events on women’s equality, second careers for athletes, sustainability and the green transition will be organized with various guests.
He is convinced that sports are the best ambassadors of our country and that athletes are the ones from whom adults can learn a lot about perseverance, determination and teamwork. At the same time, he called on fans from Slovenia to come to Paris as much as possible. During his visit to the house, Bobinac handed Golob a protocol gift from the Olympic Committee of Slovenia – a silver coin with his image Leon Štukljaan icon of Slovenian Olympism, who won two Olympic gold medals in Paris 100 years ago.
During the Olympic Games, between July 27 and August 11, the Slovenian House will be Slovenia’s information, presentation and event center for the French and global public. La Villette Park is also home to some of the other National Olympic Committees and is home to the largest official fan zone.
