According to the government office, restoring the transit of part of the Russian oil is extremely important for the Slovnaft refinery, because alternative sources of oil are more expensive and may not be technologically suitable.

The Central Committee of the Slovak Republic reminded that the whole case of stopping the transit of a part of Russian oil arose after the decision of the Ukrainian president of June 24, 2024, by which the Russian company Lukoil, which supplies both oil and Slovnaft, was put on the sanctions list. According to the government office, intensive negotiations will take place at the highest political and professional level in the coming hours and days.

Blanár called Hungary

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, spoke on the phone with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó. They talked about the proceedings regarding the filing for violation of the association agreement. TASR was informed about this by the communication department of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MFA) of the Slovak Republic.

“We agreed that we will continue to coordinate our actions in relation to the European Commission (EC), which must primarily represent the interests of the member states. If two states are primarily affected by Ukraine’s violation of the association agreement, we would expect the EC to be even more willing to help,” said Blanár.

On Monday (July 22), Blanár and Szijjártó jointly initiated an urgent appeal to the European Commission in connection with the Ukrainian stoppage of the transit of oil from Russia supplied to both countries by Lukoil.
