A double family tragedy occurred during the traffic accident that occurred at noon on the Pyrgos – Kyparissias highway, near the Elaia area, in Messinia.
Specifically, according to the Police, a 38-year-old man, his one-year-old daughter, a 44-year-old man and his 13-year-old daughter are dead. The 6-year-old son of the 38-year-old man and the 19-year-old son of the 44-year-old man have also been seriously injured.
Regarding the circumstances of the fatal traffic accident, according to the Police, the lorry driven by a 39-year-old man and headed towards Kyparissia, entered, for an as yet unknown reason, the opposite traffic stream, overturned and collided with three passing passenger cars.
Initially, the lorry collided with the car driven by the 38-year-old man, who was carrying his wife of the same age, their one-year-old daughter and his 6-year-old son.
Then, the truck collided with a second car, which was driven by the 44-year-old man and was occupied by his 13-year-old daughter, his 19-year-old son and the 66-year-old grandmother of the two children.
The truck then collided with a third car driven by a 35-year-old man and a 66-year-old man.
Immediately after the traffic accident, firefighters, EKAV ambulances and police officers arrived at the scene.
Then the 38-year-old, the 44-year-old and their two minor children were released dead.
Also, the 6-year-old, who was treated and is being treated at the “Karamandanio” Children’s Hospital of Patras, and the 19-year-old, who is being treated at the Kalamata hospital, were released with serious injuries.
The 38-year-old wife of the driver of the first passenger car, the 66-year-old woman who was riding in the second car, as well as the 39-year-old driver of the pickup truck, were slightly injured. The driver and passenger of the third car were not injured.
Investigations into the exact causes of the fatal traffic accident are being carried out by the Police.
