Even the rescuers bowed before the image they saw when they were called to assist in the fatal traffic accident that occurred yesterday at noon on the Pyrgos-Kyparissias highway, at the height of Elia Messinia.
An infant, a girl just 12 years old, and two men dead, is the tragic toll from the crazy truck race, which sowed death. The image from the scene of the tragedy, reminiscent of a war zone, shocked everyone. Immediately after the fierce collision, the vehicles turned into a shapeless mass of ironwork.

For at least two and a half hours the firefighters and rescuers of the EKAV tried to extricate all the people from the vehicles. Pyrarchos Athanasios Katsafados, described the shocking things they witnessed.

His description is shocking. “We were looking to see if we were OK, if we were alive. We saw the first car on the side of the road that was pinned, the second car was under the truck, it took an hour to realize there was a second car there. It was covered with the truck.”
From the first vehicle, a 12-year-old girl and a 44-year-old man from Kalyvia of Ilida were recovered dead. It is about Ioanna Karavella and her father Antonis. The 19-year-old co-driver of the vehicle, brother and son of the victims, was recovered seriously injured, and a 66-year-old woman was slightly injured. According to the information, the family from the village of Amaliada, was returning from Kalamata where they had gone for the swearing in of the 19-year-old boy at the town’s camp.
