Strong winds, large amounts of precipitation and temperatures close to freezing have been a challenge for motorists who have taken to the roads on Monday.
On Monday, the insurance company Tryg reached out to 480 customers who needed help to be freed from the snow, start the car and tow.
This is an increase of 85 percent and almost twice as many calls as Tryg has on a Monday in the autumn and winter season. Tryg informs Ritzau.
– We have been extraordinarily busy since the morning, when we have had quite a lot of snow and therefore also a lot of towing, says director of claims Mogens Olesen.
And the rush is expected to continue on Tuesday.
– We are being hit by some kind of weather cocktail. First a lot of snow, then a lot of water and now also a storm, he says.
The positive, however, is that right now it is plus degrees outside.
– But should we approach what is called the zero point, i.e. minus degrees, then you have to be very aware that we can risk black ID on the roads, he says.
He adds that you must be aware that there is a lot of water on the roads, which poses a risk of aquaplaning.
It happens when a road is so wet that a wedge of water forms between the tire and the road, causing the tire to lose traction.
The powerful wind is also expected to present challenges for home owners. In continuation of the risk notifications about large amounts of water and storms, Tryg has therefore issued over 75,000 notifications to customers in affected areas in West and North Jutland in particular.
The alerts contain local weather forecasts and good advice to prevent and avoid damage to your home. Tryg expects Tuesday to be a busy day again.
