UNITED STATES – The image clearly illustrates the violence of the winter storm which hit the United States in recent days. Two lynxes were found frozen, pressed together, and clinging to the top of a utility pole, this Sunday, January 5, in Norton, Kansas. The astonishing scene unfolds as the country faces extreme weather conditions, with winds and freezing temperatures.
As you can see in the photos belowthe two little bobcats were seen perched on top of a high voltage line. They were discovered by local electrical maintenance crews as they worked to restore power to residents affected by the storm. That day, it was -8°C, but with the wind chill, the temperature felt like around -21°C, local press reported.
Luckily, the technicians managed to rescue the two animals. “I couldn’t take them off”explained one of them to You are. “She (the mother) was frozen to the top of the pole, so I had to make a snare out of a piece of pipe and rope to hold her while I beat the ice down to bring her down to the ground. I had to do the same thing with the kitten,” the technician said again.
The rescue lasted approximately two hours. The mother was rescued first, then the kitten was rescued right after and ran in the same direction as her.
Since Sunday, a dangerous winter storm has hit the central United States. Millions of people are threatened by blizzard conditions.
Bad weather led to flight cancellations, school closures and road accidents. They are now moving from the central states to those on the East Coast (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia and southern New York State, where the eponymous megalopolis is located).
According to the country’s weather services, thunderstorms accompanied by hail and potential tornadoes could hit the southeastern states. These powerful winds could cause material damage and “extended power outages”warned the NWS. In the center and east of the country, temperatures are expected to drop to -18°C in places with strong gusts of wind.
