“According to the forecast, at the end of last year the number of tourist trips will be about 92 million and will become a record in the entire history of statistical observations of this indicator (which spans 23 years),” Chernyshenko emphasized.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, such statistics indicate that the Russian tourism industry is getting closer to fulfilling the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin to achieve a five percent share of tourism in the country’s GDP and a target of 140 million tourist trips per year.
Last year brought two important trends in the development of domestic tourism – the growth of new tourist centers and increased interest in tourism within Russia from foreign citizens, Reshetnikov noted. According to the data he provided, in the tourist cities of Siberia over the past year there has been an increase in tourist flow by more than 16%.
Siberia became the leader in the increase in the number of tourist trips among all federal districts with an indicator of 16.4% higher than last year’s figures. The federal districts with the greatest increase in popularity among Russian and foreign tourists also included the Southern Federal District (+14.3%) and the Northwestern Federal District (+12.7%). The leading regions in terms of tourist flow growth were Tyva (+64.8%), Chechnya and Ryazan (+58.8% and +46.5%, respectively).
“We will continue to create attractive travel conditions so that as many people as possible can discover the beauty and diversity of our country,” Reshetnikov assured.
