Economy. After four years of investment in so-called diversity and inclusion, the fast food giant McDonalds is now backing away from its previous goals – which reflects changes in the legal and political landscape in the United States.

McDonald’s will stop having specific “diversity targets” among senior executives, ending a program that encouraged suppliers to invest in diversity in their management.

In practice, it has all been about removing white people from positions of power, with reference to various concepts and theories.

In a statement, McDonald’s refers to a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that banned quotas at universities, reports AP.

The decision reflects a broader backlash against the so-called DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) programs after Israel was attacked by Hamas in October 2023. Other companies that have withdrawn similar initiatives include Walmart and Harley-Davidson.

Conservative political commentator Robby Starbuck, who has warned companies to stick to their “woke” policies, recently wrote on X that he approached McDonald’s about its diversity efforts.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s stressed in an open letter that it still supports the principle of an “inclusive workplace” and believes that this would be a competitive advantage.

President-elect Donald Trump has previously promised action against government diversity programs, and his administration is believed to be able to contribute to a change in business attitudes.
