In Ukraine, more than 12,300 civilians were killed in almost three years of war with Russia. According to the Reuters agency, the deputy UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Nášifová, informed about it. During the Russian attack on the city of Zaporozhye in the south-east of Ukraine, one person was killed and three other people were injured, the head of the regional administration informed.
“The Russian armed forces have intensified their operations with the aim of seizing more territory in the east of Ukraine, which is having a heavy impact on civilians in the frontline areas, especially in the Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions,” Nashifova said in a statement on developments since last September. The UN explains the higher number of victims in recent months by the use of drones, long-range missiles and glide bombs.
“We are deeply concerned about the impact on civilians due to the increased use of drones and the use of new weapons,” Nashifova added, referring in part to Russia’s use of highly destructive guided bombs or glide bombs in residential areas.
One of the Russian attacks today in Zaporozhye killed one person and injured three others, Ivan Fedorov, the head of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, said today on the Telegram platform. An unspecified industrial facility became the target of the attack.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that air defenses had shot down 41 of the total of 64 drones launched by Russia during the night. Of these, 22 unmanned devices were identified as imitations of attack drones, which disappeared from radars without causing damage, or flew in the direction of Russia or Belarus.
According to local authorities, debris from a drone fell on a private house in the Kyiv region, damaging the facade and windows, but no one was injured.
