If the manufacturers’ plans come to fruition, artificial intelligence will soon become an integral part of our lives.
We already knew before CES that a lot of things will revolve around artificial intelligence this year, and LG, Samsung, Hisense and TCL also showed how they imagine the “mechanized” future. The goal of all four companies is to pamper users by relying on artificial intelligence, but it is also very clear that they have chosen two strategies for this. LG and Samsung have started an all-out attack, and with artificial intelligence they would not only raise entertainment to a new level, but also improve the quality of life in a comprehensive way, while TCL and Hisense – at least for now – believe that AI can contribute mainly within individual products to make everyday life as smooth as possible.
This different perception can be traced back to several factors, but the most important of all is probably that LG’s ThinQ and Samsung’s SmartThings system TV can integrate not only their own smart gadgets into a system, but also the products of hundreds of other manufacturers. Of the two, Samsung is a bit ahead of the curve, because the ten-year-old SmartThings platform has 340 partners, while LG is only around half of this number – moreover, it also needed to acquire the company Athom.
LG and Samsung dare to dream big, in the vision of both companies, an AI system works through which the products not only improve and optimize their own operation, but are also able to adapt to each other. Our devices will soon talk to each other – and, of course, to us with the help of generative artificial intelligence. Soon it will be possible to experience those movie scenes in real life, when we can talk to our home in a living speech, in a discourse-like manner.
By the way, with Zömm, we are talking about things and functions that are already available – in the morning, for example, we can check the quality of our sleep on the phone, the expected weather and, of course, the to-do list. The novelty is that artificial intelligence will watch over this data and communicate with us based on contexts. For example, there is no need for him to tell you every day that you woke up rested – because this is normal. However, the AI will automatically know if you haven’t slept well, and in this case it will offer to make a coffee, if you regularly don’t sleep well, it will give you tips for a restful sleep, and in more serious cases it will even offer and organize a medical consultation for me. This is just one example out of many, but perhaps it shows how much more human a system can be that does not need to be constantly monitored, checked and programmed – yet, by learning our habits and understanding them to a certain degree, it works exactly as it is natural for us. , comfortable and necessary.
Hisense and TCL are not here yet, but we have no doubts that China will soon catch up. Of course, this does not mean that these two companies are not developing with full steam on the AI front, but for now they are only optimizing at the device level – the TV is primarily the center of entertainment, not the alpha and omega of the smart home or the all-pervading AI. These two manufacturers use the Google TV smart TV system, which easily accesses the Google Home system. In addition, Gemini will be available for Google TV in 2025 – the possibility is therefore also available for Hisense and TCL, although it is not only and exclusively up to them in which direction AI developments go.
Although LG and Samsung have presented higher-profile concepts, we do not yet expect that super-smart, AI-powered apartments will mushroom this year – the fact is, however, that the possibility is no longer just theoretical, and it is also a fact that in addition to the products, everything else is also given to the development. Of course, it is still a question whether generative AI is smart enough, and it will also be interesting to see how well the ideas of manufacturers and users match; but the direction is given. So we know where we’re going, but it’s not yet clear how fast.
