The first NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 “Blackwell” laptop graphics card has been preview tested, surpassing the performance of the current flagship RTX 4090 Laptop. The benchmark appeared on OpenCL, revealing a score of 190,326 points achieved on an Alienware Area-51 laptop.
Going into more detail, the RTX 5080 Laptop would be 18% faster than the current 4080 Laptop6% faster than the 4090 Laptop e in line with the performance of the current 4070 Super per PC Desktop.
The mobile RTX 5080 matches the performance of the desktop RTX 4070 SUPER.
This new GPU for laptops is therefore positioned at the top, with high-level specifications: 7680 CUDA core, 16 GB of GDDR7 memory and a TGP variable between 80 and 150W. NVIDIA plans to launch the first laptops equipped with RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs in March 2025.
High prices are expected, with the Alienware Area-51 expected starting at around $2,199. The full lineup will also include the RTX 5090, 5070 Ti, and 5070 models, with different core and memory configurations.
The benchmark (which we leave you below) highlights how the mobile RTX 5080 approaches the performance of the RTX 4070 SUPER for desktopsuggesting that the top-of-the-line mobile RTX 5090 could sit between the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and the desktop RTX 4080.
It is important to underline that These preliminary results may not fully reflect final performanceas software optimizations and definitive drivers may be missing. Actual scores may vary once reviewers have a chance to fully test laptops with these new GPUs.
The arrival of these New mobile graphics cards promise to bring a significant performance leap to laptops gaming and high-end portable workstations, confirming NVIDIA’s commitment to the segment enthusiast of the notebook market.
