The publicly available draft of the government decision prepared by the Ministry of Defense envisages the appointment of Kryukov as the commander of the National Guard on January 22.
It is planned that the last working day of the current commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Kaspars Pudānas, will be January 21. Pudan has been chosen as the next commander of the National Armed Forces and will take up this position on January 27.
Pudan’s successor as the commander of the National Guard, Kryukov, has been serving in the National Armed Forces since 1997. During his service, he has held command positions in the National Guard, Land Forces. Participated in international operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as performed the duties of deputy military representative in the NATO/EU military representation in Brussels. Kryukovs was also vice-rector of the Latvian National Defense Academy.
He received his military education at the US Command and General Staff College and the Slovak National Defense Academy.
Kryukov has a bachelor’s degree in management science. He is currently studying at the US Army War College, getting a senior command education.
The law provides that the National Guard commanders are appointed and dismissed by the Cabinet of Ministers upon the proposal of the Minister of Defense.
It has already been reported that the term of office of the National Armed Forces Commander Leonidas Kalniņš expires in January, and his successor will be the current National Guard Commander Pudāns.
