President Erdoğan announced a series of initiatives to improve Turkey’s defense capabilities. Speaking after the first Cabinet Meeting of 2025, Erdoğan outlined strategic projects that highlight the country’s expanding defense industry capacity.
According to the news in the foreign media, Turkey has made significant progress in technological self-management by officially integrating the SİPER Block-1 air defense system into its national arsenal. The news stated that the SİPER system, developed by Roketsan, Aselsan and TÜBİTAK SAGE, provides protection against complex air threats, including cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
It was stated in the news that it demonstrated the ability to block targets more than 100 kilometers away during tests in 2023, and it was underlined that work on future versions with a range of up to 180 kilometers is currently ongoing. The news stated that Erdoğan announced the launch of the Steel Dome project and gave instructions to accelerate the plan for long-range ballistic missiles that can reach 2 thousand kilometers.
TURKEY’S POWER AT THE SEAS IS INCREASING
It was also stated that the MİLGEM project attracted attention with domestically designed corvettes and frigates, and that five ships were already operational and seven additional frigates were being built. The news emphasized the domestic submarine TF-2000 air defense destroyer and the MUGEM aircraft carrier, which aims to strengthen Turkey’s naval presence in the region, and stated that these initiatives not only increase military capacity but also show the advancing expertise of Turkey’s defense industry.
