Lada Niva Sport gets a new 122 HP engine

The Lada Niva is still one of the cheapest SUVs you can buy. And it is certainly one of the oldest on the market. The Russian SUV that was “born” in the seventies of the last century will have more power than ever before.

The brand’s website states that they turned to the Lada motorsport department to improve the performance and dynamics of the model using the experience gained in competitions.

The first works are focused on the engine. Until now, the Niva used a 1.7-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 83 hp and a five-speed manual transmission, but that is now a thing of the past. Instead, it mentions a 16-valve engine with a power of 122 hp and a maximum torque of 151 Nm at 5,000 rpm, which is connected to a strengthened gearbox, while the improvements also included the reduction.

However, the news does not stop there, because the changes also include important aspects of vehicle dynamics, such as suspension and brakes. In the interior, sporty accents have also been added, such as sports seats and a steering wheel.

For now, Lada has not yet published information about availability at Russian distributors or prices for the new model. However, taking into account that the standard Niva Legend costs around 8,600 euros, and the luxurious Niva Bronto costs 13,800 euros, we are sure that it will still remain an affordable and interesting model. However, we should not hope for her arrival in Serbia and the EU.
