OnePlus has presented its first two smartphones of 2025. These are excellent devices, but what are the differences? You can read it in this OnePlus 13 vs OnePlus 13R comparison.

Just like last year, OnePlus will also launch two high-end smartphones in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2025. This of course concerns the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R. They are both fast, luxurious and have a huge battery. But what are the differences? And what is the best choice for you? Read more quickly in our OnePlus 13 vs OnePlus 13R comparison!
1. Hardware
The OnePlus 13R has the same processor as the OnePlus 12 last year. This is the well-known Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which offers excellent performance. Whether you play a lot of games or edit videos on your smartphone, everything runs smoothly. You get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. That is as much as with the cheapest version of the OnePlus 13.
That device runs on a new and even faster Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. On paper the difference with its predecessor is quite large, but in practice you will not notice much of it at the moment. You have to put a lot of strain on your smartphone to see the benefit of the latest Snapdragon. This could of course change in the future, if apps start to place higher demands on the hardware.
2. Screen
The OnePlus 13 offers a 6.82-inch OLED screen. This has a small curvature on four sides, while the 6.78-inch OLED screen of the OnePlus 13R is completely flat. The resolution of the display on the OnePlus 13 is also slightly higher. Both smartphones have a refresh rate of 120Hz for smooth images and a maximum brightness of 4500 nits.
In practice, you will hardly see any differences between these smartphones. They are beautiful screens. However, the glass of the OnePlus 13 is slightly better protected against damage.
3. Camera’s
Perhaps the biggest difference between the OnePlus 13 vs the OnePlus 13R are the cameras. The OnePlus 13 offers three 50 megapixel cameras, including a telephoto lens that allows you to zoom in 3x. They have been adjusted again by the renowned Hasselblad, which provides a slightly nostalgic look.
The 13R has to make do without Hasselblad’s magical fingers. The hardware is also less impressive. For example, all cameras use fewer large sensors and the wide-angle lens has a resolution of only 8 megapixels. That is really very little in 2025. With the telephoto lens you can only zoom in 2x. The fact that it has a camera at all is a win, because the OnePlus 12R had no telephoto lens at all.
Yet it is clear that photography enthusiasts are a lot better off with the OnePlus 13 than with the OnePlus 13R.
4. Water resistance
One of the biggest criticisms of the OnePlus 12 was its IP rating. With an IP65 certification, the device could withstand rain, but not complete submersion.
The OnePlus 13 does a lot better with its IP68/IP69 certificate. Not only can you drop it into the pool, but it can also survive hard jets of water with a temperature of up to 80 degrees.
The OnePlus 13R is stuck at IP65 and is therefore less durable. Anyone who handles their smartphone with care will of course not be bothered by this. As mentioned, even an IP65 smartphone is not shocked by a heavy downpour.
5. Battery and charging
Both the OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus 13R have a 6000 mAh battery. That is very large and ensures excellent battery life in both cases. We do see a difference when charging. The 13 does this with a maximum of 100 watts and needs 36 minutes to completely fill an empty battery. The 13R refuels battery juice with 80 watts, meaning a full charge takes 53 minutes.
Moreover, you cannot charge the 13R wirelessly. That is possible with the OnePlus 13. In that case, the maximum speed is 50 watts. Reverse wireless charging is also possible. For example, you place your earplugs on the back to refill them.
OnePlus no longer supplies a charger with these smartphones. If you don’t have it, you will have to purchase it separately.
6. Price
The suggested retail price of the OnePlus 13 is 999 euro. You get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A OnePlus 13R with the same configuration costs 749 euro. So a difference of 250 euros. The OnePlus 13 is also available with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. You pay 1149 euros for that.
Smaller differences
- The OnePlus 13 has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. This allows you to unlock the device slightly faster than with the optical variant of the OnePlus 13R.
- With the OnePlus 13 you can play audio in high resolution. That is not possible with the OnePlus 13.
- The OnePlus 13 has a USB 3.2 port. This allows you to import files faster than with the USB 2.0 connection on the OnePlus 13R.
Conclusion OnePlus 13 vs OnePlus 13R comparison
For the additional cost of 250 euros, the OnePlus 13 offers quite a few extras compared to the 13R. At 749 euros it is currently relatively expensive. Especially since you can now get the OnePlus 12 for €699. That device has the same processor, but much better cameras, for example. Moreover, it charges faster than the 13R and also wirelessly if desired.
