The Hungarian men’s handball team, which is preparing for the World Championship, played a 31-31 draw with Serbia in the training match held in Zombor on Wednesday. Chema Rodriguez’s team played with a man disadvantage for half of the half.
Men’s handball preparatory match
Serbia-Hungary 31-31 (16-15)
shots/goals: 47/31 and 44/31
goals from seven meters: 6/5 and 3/1
exhibitions: 2 and 14 minutes respectively
Hungary: Palasics – Bóka 2, Szita 1, Fazekas 1, Bánhidi 3, Ónodi-Jánoskúti 3, Imre 2, substitutions: Sipos, Ligetvári, Rosta 4, Bodó 3, Ilic 3, Krakovszki B. 4, Krakovszki Zs. 4, Hanusz 1, Bartucz, Lékai
Based on their effective defense and Kristóf Palasics’ brilliant saves, the Hungarian team started well, but they were not always able to convert this into goals in attack. In the continuation, the shots became more and more effective, they managed to go 9-4, but from here – partly due to the Hungarian substitutions – the hosts quickly closed back (9-7).
After another good period, there were four between them again, then the Serbians punished every Hungarian error with a goal, and at that point Palasics could not save either, so the home team equalized in the 29th minute (15-15), even before the break – for the first time during the match – they also took over the leadership.
At the beginning of the second half, the defense of the visitors worked well again, and the Krakovszki twins, Zsolt and Bence, took back the lead with six goals. In the first half, the Serbians had six more shots on goal, but the Hungarian national team quickly equalized this after the break. Thanks to the Serbian referees, the visitors were able to practice the man disadvantage game many times, partly due to this, the home team equalized again in the 47th minute (24-24).
An “announcement” goal was also born, after the Serbian shot, the ball slipped out of the back of the net. Taking advantage of a bad Hungarian move, the advantage was again with the well-defending Serbian team with a minute and a half to go, and then Máté Ónodi-Jánoskúti set the final score.
In a week, the Hungarians will begin their performance against North Macedonia in the Varasd group of the World Cup, then they will play against Guinea on Friday and the Netherlands on Sunday. The first three places advance to the semi-finals, also in Varas.
