Bing’s AI image generator has the internet in a tizzy, Microsoft has retreated –

The latest version of the image generator developed by OpenAI has done more harm than good.

A year ago, Microsoft announced that it was teaming up with the company OpenAI, which also developed ChatGPT, in order to incorporate the latest achievements of artificial intelligence into its own products. Thanks to this, ChatGPT-4 Turbo can be used in Copilot, the virtual assistant of Windows, and in the Bing search engine, we can take pictures with DALL-E 3.

This latter function has now caused intense emotions from users, who have begun to report en masse that they can only extract significantly worse quality images from Bing’s image generator than a few months ago.

On December 18, the company announced that the DALL-E 3 PR16 code-named model is already running under their image generator, thanks to which it will be possible to produce higher quality images twice as fast.

It didn’t take long for the user feedback to come in, which did not support the company’s claims. Many people complained that the system, which used to deliver lifelike works, now only managed to retrieve cartoon-like, lifeless images.

At first, the company defended itself by saying that, on average, better quality images should be produced, but as they encountered more and more outraged feedback, they began to investigate the phenomenon. This was not an easy task, since the keywords used for generation were very different from user to user, but the company finally indicatedthat they managed to reproduce certain errors.

As a result, Bing’s imager is reverted to DALL-E 3 PR13 until they figure out what’s behind the annoying phenomenon. However, this process takes time: according to Microsoft, they have already managed to switch a quarter of users to the previous model, but the entire process may take another 2-3 weeks.
