18 years ago, Steve Jobs changed the world with the first iPhone

Today marks an anniversary that has marked the history of technology and our way of living everyday life: on January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs took the stage at Macworld Expo to present two products destined to change the technology industry forever: the first iPhone and theApple TV.

“Today, Apple Will Reinvent the Phone”. With these words, Jobs introduced the iPhone as a revolutionary device, capable of combining three extraordinary functions:

  1. An iPod with touch controlsto listen to music and view content in a completely new way.
  2. A telephone which overcame the limitations of cell phones at the time.
  3. An internet communications devicewith advanced features for browsing, emailing and connecting to the world.

What struck everyone was not only the combination of these functions, but the simplicity with which the iPhone integrated them into an elegant and minimal design. Jobs himself emphasized: “It’s not three separate devices, it’s one device. And we call it the iPhone.”

This device, with its 3.5 inch multi-touch displaya completely new operating system (iPhone OS) and a 2-megapixel camera, not only consolidated multiple devices into one, but laid the foundation for the modern smartphone concept.

While the iPhone attracted the world’s attention, Jobs also introduced another innovative product: theApple TV. Born to transform the living room, the device was initially teased as “iTV” in 2006, but was officially launched during this event.

Apple TV allowed you to:

  • Stream movies, TV series, music and photos directly from your Mac or PC to your TV.
  • Save content locally thanks to a 40GB hard drive.
  • Supporting HD resolutions up to 720p, with HDMI and component video outputs.

Among the surprises of the event, one of the most symbolic was the change of name of the company: da “Apple Computer, Inc.” a “Apple Inc.”. This small but significant gesture represented Apple’s intention to broaden its reach, going beyond computers to dominate new sectors such as telephony, entertainment and much more.

Looking back, it’s incredible to think how a single event defined the future of technology. The iPhone wasn’t just a device, but a cultural shift that redefined our relationship with technology. Likewise, Apple TV has opened the door to a world where streaming has become an essential part of our lives.

Steve Jobs said, “Your work will fill a large part of your life.” And today, 18 years later, Jobs’ work continues to inspire millions of people and shape the future.
