The outbreak of the Corona crisis five years ago heralded a boom in streaming services and media libraries. And the number of users is still growing.
The streaming audience in Germany continued to grow in 2024. Last year, according to AGF Video Research, 67.73 million people had at least one contact with one of the streaming offers that are subject to AGF measurement. That is 5.2 percent more viewers than in 2023. This corresponds to a share of 86.5 percent of the total TV audience, the experts reported.
The average viewing time for the streaming offers evaluated also increased by 36.5 percent compared to the previous year and was an average of 7 minutes per day in 2024. In 2023 it was 5 minutes. Among 14 to 49 year olds, the average viewing time grew even more significantly: by more than 50 percent from 5 to 8 minutes.
The values from the actual AGF measurement do not represent the entire streaming market. The offers and media libraries from ARD and ZDF, the RTL Group, ProSieben.Sat.1/Joyn, Sport1, Welt, Sky/Wow and DAZN are actively evaluated. “In addition, the results from the passive AGF smart meter measurement also show that the streaming platforms Amazon, Disney+, Netflix and YouTube, together with an average viewing time on the big screen of 13 minutes per day, are an integral part of moving image usage in Germany “, added the statisticians.
