The Romanian equivalent of the VÉDA system, which has been operating in Hungary since 2016, e-SIGUR, has begun. The first cameras of the road control and penalty system were put into operation on January 1 on the A1 highway leading from the Hungarian-Romanian border to Bucharest, the A2 highway connecting the capital with the Black Sea coast, and on the Vrancea county section of the DN2 highway, he writes. the Euronews Romanian edition.
The system consisting of 300 traffipax and 500 surveillance cameras was adopted in December 2022 – as can be read in Maszol.ro in his report – with the introduction of which the police will no longer stop illegal drivers, such as speeders. Instead, based on the recordings of violations recorded by the cameras, the system identifies and notifies the owner of the vehicle, and then the driver is fined.
It is hoped that the introduction of e-SIGUR will reduce the number of road fatalities and serious injuries by 50-50 percent by 2030 compared to 2019 data.

In the event that the owner of the car does not want to reveal who was driving the vehicle at the time of the violation, 9-20 penalty points are imposed on him – one penalty point is currently equivalent to 202.5 lei, converted to nearly HUF 17,000.
The new cameras will not only monitor compliance with speed limits, but also detect other violations, such as ignoring a red signal, not wearing a seat belt, and using a mobile phone while driving. In addition, e-SIGUR also signals when it sees vehicles with a traffic permit that has been circled or suspended.
