City council member Bünyamin Simsek, who for many years sat on the Aarhus city council for the Liberals, switches to the Conservatives.
According to DR, the conservative voters’ association in Aarhus states this in a press release.
Bünyamin Simsek has been a member of the city council in Aarhus Municipality since 2002. But in November last year he was kicked out of the city council group by the left-wing city council group. It was on the grounds that he was no longer trusted.
According to DR, the change takes place after thorough consideration by Simsek, where ‘orderliness in politics in particular has been decisive’.
Among other things, Simsek has a past as a political leader for the Liberal Party in the municipality. He has been a councilor for the magistrate’s department for both Children and Young People and Technology and the Environment in the municipality.
In November, in a post on Facebook, Simsek reached out to his former colleagues in the city council group.
“This decision has been made by Christian Budde, Gert Bjerregaard and Mathilde Bressum without any involvement of me”.
“A decision without a physical meeting, dialogue and most importantly, no propriety,” wrote Simsek.
According to political leader Christian Budde (V), there was no other way out than a political divorce. He said that to TV 2 Østjylland at the time.
“I am sorry that our paths must part, but at the same time I have to state that I no longer have confidence that Bünyamin Simsek will show the necessary willingness to cooperate going forward”, said Budde to the media.
Simsek also wrote in the Facebook post that he had disagreed with three specific elements in the Left-wing city council group. Including the scope of a newspaper publication in the magistrate’s department for Health and Care, where Budde is a councillor.
In addition, Simsek disagreed with the city council group’s way of achieving climate goals, and finally he disagreed with the group’s line in relation to the project with a new football stadium in Aarhus.
