The Oscar nominations were supposed to be announced on January 17th. Due to the major fires in Los Angeles, the date has been postponed.

The major fires in the Los Angeles area are now also affecting the announcement of the Oscar nominations. On January 17th, the film academy wanted to announce the candidates for Hollywood’s highest prize. This will take place two days later due to the fires, said managing director Bill Kramer in a letter to around 10,000 members, as US media reported. This gives filmmakers more time to vote on the candidates.

Kramer expressed his condolences to those affected by the fires. “So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you,” the Los Angeles Times quoted the letter as saying. The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 2nd.

The announcement of nominations for the Producers Guild of America Awards has also been postponed due to the ongoing fires. It was originally scheduled to take place this Friday. The voting window for the PGA Awards will be extended by two days, it said. The nominations are now due to be announced on Sunday (January 12). The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 8th.

In addition to Oscar nominations: Critics Choice Awards postponed

The lenders of the renowned Critics Choice Awards had previously postponed their trophy gala in Santa Monica scheduled for this Sunday due to the fires. “All our thoughts and prayers are with those fighting the destructive fires and with everyone affected by them,” said a statement from association chief Joey Berlin.

With almost 600 members, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) is the largest critics’ association for film and television in the USA and Canada. The 30th Critics Choice Awards gala is now scheduled to take place on January 26th in Santa Monica. Film studios canceled premiere parties. Hollywood’s acting association SAG (Screen Actors Guild) canceled a nomination ceremony. The list of nominees was instead announced in writing.
