With the M8T, Shanling presents its new top model among portable hi-fi players. The M8T combines a tube output stage with a state-of-the-art DAC architecture and an open Android 13 operating system.
Design and workmanship
The robust housing of the Shanling M8T is made from a block of aluminum. According to Shanling, the material meets the strict requirements of the aviation industry. The precisely milled wave patterns on the sides give the player an elegant look. The 6-inch Full HD display from Sharp with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels ensures a razor-sharp display.
Tube technology and sound modes
A special feature of the M8T is the integrated tube technology. Two JAN6418 tubeswhich are built into a shock-protected construction, ensure a warm and harmonious sound. Shanling offers three different output modes:
- Transistor-Modus: For a clear and dynamic sound signature.
- Triode Mode: Delivers a soft and warm sound.
- Ultra-Linear-Modus: Combines the advantages of transistor and tube for balanced sound reproduction.
DAC architecture and audio technology
The M8T uses a Dual DAC setup with two AKM AK4499EX chips and the associated ones AK4191 Board of Directors -Modulators. This combination is intended to ensure distortion-free signal processing and detailed sound reproduction. The special design reduces interference and ensures particularly clean playback of high-resolution audio files.
Operating system and usability
The device is running Android 13 offering long-term software support and compatibility with a variety of music apps and streaming services. Thanks to the open system architecture, users can install any apps. Shanling’s own AGLO-Technologie ( Android Global Lossless Output ) ensures that all audio data is processed losslessly, without unwanted resampling effects.
Connectivity and battery life
The M8T supports Bluetooth 5.0 with the codecs LDACSBC and AAC as well as WLAN in the 2.4 and 5 GHz range. It can be used both as a Bluetooth transmitter and as a receiver. The Battery with a capacity of 8,350 mAh offers up to 15.5 hours of playback time in single-ended mode and 13 hours in balanced mode. Thanks to Quick Charge 3.0 and Power Delivery 2.0, the player can be charged quickly.
More technical details
The Shanling M8T has a USB-C port that can be used for both data transfer and fast charging. The device can also be used as a high-resolution USB-DAC be used to connect to computers.
The M8T uses one Eight-core 665 CPU in 11nm architecture from Qualcomm and an Andreno 610 GPU. The memory includes 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 2 TB.
