The best-selling electric car in the world is renewed. In China the restyling from the Tesla Model Yknown as a project Juniper. At the moment, the battery-powered SUV is only available in the Land of the Dragon (the first deliveries are expected in March), but in the coming months it will also arrive in the rest of the world, including Europe.
This is a truly important update if we consider that the model has been on sale since 2019 and that over the years it has had to deal with increasingly fierce competition on all markets, while remaining at the top of the sales rankings throughout this time.
Compared to the outgoing Tesla – still available on our market – there are important differences, not only from an aesthetic point of view. Let’s go and discover them.
Inspired by the Cybertruck and Model 3
Taking a look at Tesla’s Chinese website you can see the various changes to which the Model Y has been subjected.
The new crossover design focuses even more on efficiency and aerodynamics. There length it has increased to 4,797 mm compared to the 4,751 mm of the previous version, while width and height remain essentially unchanged at 1,921 mm and 1,624 mm.

The interior reflect the innovations already introduced with the Model 3 restyling. These include thicker glass for greater soundproofing, customizable ambient lighting, ventilated front seats and electrically folding rear seats, as well as a new fabric covering for the dashboard.

The main screen from 15,4″ has been updated, as has the 8″ rear display dedicated to passengers. The steering wheel is similar to that of the Model 3, although in the images of the Chinese site you can see a small additional lever, perhaps to operate the direction indicators (a function which until now was possible to activate directly from the steering wheel controls).
Engines and prices for China
Moving on to enginesthe Model Y facelift is sold in China in versions RWD (with single rear engine) e Long Range with dual motor and all-wheel drive. The RWD version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with a declared range of 593 km in the Chinese CLTC cycle (which tends to be more optimistic than the WLTP), while the Long Range reaches 100 km/h in 4. 3 seconds and has a range of 719 km.

Both variants are equipped with LFP battery – whose capacity is not declared – and support fast charging, with maximum powers of 170 kW for the RWD and 250 kW for the Long Range. Naturally, we wait to see if these data will be confirmed on the European model.
At the moment, the version is not present on the Chinese configurator Performancewhich is expected to be introduced at a later stage.
Meanwhile, in China the new Model Y starts at 263,500 yuan (just under 35,000 euros), which is about 5% more than the prezzo of the previous model. Even if we don’t yet know the expected price list for Europe, it is likely that the Model Y restyling in Italy will cost a few thousand euros more than the current 43,675 euros. Let’s also remember that the car will also be produced in Europe in the Gigafactory in Berlin, unlike the Model 3 which is assembled in Shanghai and the USA.
