St. Petersburg turned out to be one of the leading regions in terms of the share of self-employed

Now every fourth city dweller is like this.

More than 800 thousand residents of the Northern capital received self-employed status by the end of 2024.

Thus, as reported by “Business Petersburg»with reference to Petrostat statistics, every fourth city dweller (24.1%) of working age has this status. Over the year, the number of St. Petersburg residents registered as self-employed increased by 32%, or 200 thousand people, compared to 2023.

In 2024, revenues from the self-employed to the city budget, according to the Finance Committee, amounted to 5.7 billion rubles, and for 2025 they predict 6.4 billion rubles (+12%).

According to the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation, on average, 23.8 thousand people received self-employed status in St. Petersburg each month last year. The share of self-employed people in St. Petersburg significantly exceeds the Russian average (14%), but is lower than the Moscow value (25.5%).

The publication, citing experts, predicts a decrease in the growth rate of the number of self-employed in St. Petersburg. It is expected that their number of self-employed will not exceed 901 thousand people (+13%). The growth rate is expected to be three times lower than in 2024. The reasons for this situation are the emergence of a plateau and a decrease in interest among the population in this tax status.

It was previously reported that St. Petersburg residents began looking for new jobs during the holidays.
