Renault is pumping new models into the world at an incredible pace. These models are often promising and electric, such as the new 5, the 4 and the Twingo. The latter currently only exists as a prototype, but you can bet that the production version in 2026 will be largely identical to that ‘study model’. The new Twingo is more than a nod to the original Twingo from the 1990s, but modern, five-door and fully electric. List We have only seen the exterior of the new Twingo so far, but in Brussels it is the interior’s turn. Renault itself says that the interior is also full of nods to the original Twingo, but we don’t see it that way. For example, the new Twingo simply has an information screen behind the steering wheel, while the original Twingo had an instrument cluster in the center of the dashboard. We already know many elements of the Prototype Twingo from Renault production models, such as the steering wheel and the ‘gear lever’. This results in a production-ready whole and we expect that 90 percent of this interior will return to the production Twingo. There is plenty of storage space for loose items, says Renault, such as in an open ‘compartment’ halfway down the dashboard. A striking element is the ‘frame’ around the windshield, which also contains the sun visors at the top. Sleek. The interior of the original Twingo. Do you see it in the new one?PracticalA real Twingo must also be practical, so the new one has a sliding rear seat that can be folded into two parts. The original Twingo could be ordered with a fabric folding roof for extra light and air, with the new one it remains ‘light’ and Renault – at least in the prototype – installs a large glass roof. As mentioned, the new Renault Twingo will arrive in 2026. although it is new that we can now call it ‘next year’. Partly thanks to the involvement of a Chinese partner, the development time is extremely short. The price will be exceptionally low: Renault promises a starting price of less than €20,000 for the Twingo.
