With a Chromecast with Google TV you turn your television into an Android device. This way you can use apps from almost all major streaming services or cast directly from your smartphone. Because the Chromecast with Google TVs have their own operating system, they also need to be updated. And the first Chromecast update of 2025 is now rolling out.

This concerns the security update from November 2024, which fixes bugs from older versions. The new update is still based on Android 12, but we expect the major upgrade to Android 14 soon. The Chromecast update that is now rolling out has version number STTL.241013.003 and is 72.25MB in size.

Chromecast with Google TV: these are the options

Google has launched two Chromecasts with Google TVs. The big difference is in the image quality. The more expensive version can display films and series in 4K quality on your television. And then there is the Chromecast with Google TV (HD). This media player goes – as the name suggests – up to full HD.

However, Google will stop producing these two handy media players in mid-2024, as most new televisions are already smart. They are still available while supplies last, although Google still supports them with Chromecast updates.
