When does the “mountain ruin”, valid in Valea Prahova, come into force? Who is liable to pay this new tax?

On January 15, a new road tax, nicknamed the “mountain ruin”, comes into force. This applies to certain categories of vehicles that travel on Valea Prahova. Here’s how much this special sticker costs and which drivers are required to purchase it.

The new year brings new taxes for some drivers. More precisely, we are talking about the large tonnage carriers that will travel on some roads within the radius of Brașov county.

The County Council decided that these vehicles, in addition to obtaining a free pass, should also pay an additional road tax.

From January 15, 2025, high-tonnage vehicles will pay a special damage fee of up to 1,500 lei per year, it says Good Day Brasov.

I tested the application at the end of last year and then signed the purchase. We are going to launch the application in the middle of January. All those who wrote to us and requested the issuance of a free pass were informed that the application will be functional, including on the payment side, in the following days (…) However, it will be an exception. For the road from Podu Oltului to Harman, the free pass will be valid only for the road, not on the bridge. That is, from Harman to the houses in Podu Oltului on the side from Harman or from Covasna, in Podu Oltului, up to the bridge. The technical condition of the bridge does not allow heavy vehicles to cross, and we will not allow this even for a fee. This aspect will also appear on the application“, said Szenner Zoltan, the public administrator of the county, according to the quoted source.

There will be weekly, monthly and annual free passes, valid on one or more roads.

The rates will be differentiated, depending on the tonnage, in four categories:

  • 3,5-7,5 tone,
  • 7,5-12 tone,
  • 12-24 tone
  • 24-40 tone.

For vehicles larger than 40 tons, free passage permit fees are assessed individually, depending on:

  • vehicle gauge;
  • the distance traveled;
  • the tonnage limitations imposed on the respective road sectors.

On which roads will the new tax apply

The new tax will be applied on 16 roads in Brașov County:
