It’s official, Donald Trump exempted from sentence in the case of ex-porn star Stormy Daniels

It was a historic criminal conviction for a president-elect of the United States, but the sentence is only symbolic. A New York judge on Friday morning issued an exemption from sentence for Donald Trump in the case of hidden payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels.

Donald Trump appeared by video during this hearing at Manhattan Criminal Court, denouncing “a disgrace to the system”. With this decision, the way is now clear for the Republican, who will enter the White House on January 20, at the age of 78, with the label of a habitual criminal.

“Good luck for your second term”

Ten days before his entry into the White House, the Republican therefore appeared remotely on a video screen, two American flags behind him, during this hearing which he sought to avoid by using all means. Visibly irritated and impatient, he denounced a “disgrace for the system”, saying he was “totally innocent” and recalling that he had won the popular vote in the presidential election of November 5.

After thanking him, Judge Juan Merchan recalled the “unique and exceptional circumstances” of the situation. He then pronounced an exemption from sentence, “the only sentence” possible in his eyes, and wished Donald Trump: “good luck for your second term”.
