Every three to four weeks, 2dekansje.com sells its warehouse in Nieuwveen completely empty. Last year, more than a quarter of a million second-hand items, returns from online stores, were sold.
Director Enri Meijers shares with Emerce some key figures about his achievements last year. These show that ‘returns’ and ‘second-hand’ are no longer contaminated terms. It is serious business, something that parties such as Vinted or Swappie will also agree.
“Last year, 6.1 million visitors explored our online shops and discovered the beauty of second-chance products. These are products that come back as returns from 197 partners.” These partners are the largest sellers on bol.com such as Lifegoods, Inventum and Strex and well-known online stores. With the exception of Blokker, Meijers does not want to mention any names.
Except in the Netherlands and Flanders 2dekansje.com also active in the French and German language areas with 2echoix.fr and Bwareshop.de. Same concept, different markets.
The year 2025 will partly focus on scaling up these activities. For the time being, this is still possible at a location where New Returns, as the company is called, is active. But with the current growth figures, even after the divestment of the trade in new articles, space is becoming increasingly tight.
What New Returns is, simply put, taking over returns management from online sellers. These can be online stores, traders on marketplaces, but also fulfillment parties. The work means that if a consumer returns a purchase, it goes to the warehouse in Nieuwveen. This is where the inspection, grading and repackaging and the second sale take place. This is done via its own sites, 2dekansje.com in the Netherlands and Flanders.
Online stores and other traders benefit from this because they do not have to set up a returns route or maintain space with their fulfillment partner. They receive cash and are care poorer.
Last year, New Returns’ sites transitioned to a new back-end; Shopify. GenAI is used extensively to design the site. When a new item comes online, the machine generates text and images within seven seconds. For the time being, this is not an SEO concern for Google, which prefers to drink original content, but top articles will soon receive human editorial editing in addition to AI editing.
Meijers also wants to expand its marketing mix in 2025. He, and partners Achraf Aoulad Abdelaziz and Hugo le Conge Kleyn, want to become less dependent on Google for SEO and SEA. Outbound e-mail is becoming increasingly important and entrepreneurs want to focus more on social networks. “The mix must be broader.”
A competitor of New Returns is BuyBay.
