Dutch e-bike maker Huyser went bankrupt in November, but the company is returning with its self-designed electric bicycles. The brand is making a new start and plans to launch new e-bike models soon.
Thanks to an ‘external financier’, the Huyser bicycle brand is continued under the leadership of founder Peter Smit. He started the company in 2017 as a house brand of Peter Smit Tweewielers, but the electric bicycles were later also sold by more than 200 bicycle shops.
After the restart, the company will first focus on selling its stock of electric bicycles. Huyser will launch new e-bike models halfway through this year, Smit said News bike. Technical support and after-sales should be resumed soon. The storage and distribution of the bicycles will be outsourced. Smit will be talking to all 200 dealers and hopes for ‘as many new collaborations as possible’.
More e-bike companies are bankrupt
According to the curator, the reason for the bankruptcy was that Huyser had estimated the demand for his bicycles too high in recent years. This left it with a large stock of unsold e-bikes. Many more bicycle brands suffered from this, given the many bankruptcies in the bicycle industry.
In recent months, for example, the Dutch e-bike companies Stella and Amslod were also declared bankrupt. Stella is also making a new start. The curator of Amslod is still investigating whether this is possible. Earlier this week, the e-bike brand Bacyk also went bankrupt.
Electric bicycles with Dutch design
Huyser sold self-designed e-bikes, with an emphasis on the ‘Dutch design’ of the bicycles. The brand mainly focused on electric city bicycles, but it also had a cargo bicycle in its range.
