The Canadian government announced this Friday that it will take ready trade reprisals against the USA if Donald Trump imposes customs duties on Canadian exports, said Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly.
The government official told journalists that “the threat (of customs duties) is clear and current.”
Trump, he recalled, “said he will impose customs duties immediately,” said Joly, assuring that Canada is working to convince the Republican’s advisors that there will be reprisals from the Canadian government.
Joly said that Trump is entering his second term “with more experience” and that “he had time to think about the first and brought together a group of people who are very loyal to him. Now he understands not only how Washington works but also geopolitics”, he declared .
“We have to show US citizens and the people around Trump that there will be real consequences,” he concluded.
