Decline in Mercedes sales in 2024

The German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz announces that it sold fewer vehicles in 2024, with worse results in China.

The company sold 2.39 million cars and vans last year, four percent less than in 2023.

The decline in sales was somewhat mitigated in the fourth quarter thanks to a slight recovery in the Chinese market.

Passenger car sales in China fell by seven percent, despite a recovery in the fourth quarter when they increased by three percent.

China is the most important market for all leading German car manufacturers, but lately they have been facing fierce domestic competition, especially in the electric vehicle sector, as well as trade tensions.

Sales of battery-powered cars in China are growing strongly, but overall demand is still weaker due to a slowing economy.

Mercedes-Benz sold 23 percent fewer electric vehicles in 2024 than in 2023, and the decline deepened slightly in the fourth quarter.
