One sentence, $8 billion minus. The director of Nvidia thus demolished the segment of quantum computers

This is how you can easily describe the situation that arose after the statement of the director of Nvidia Jensen Huang on the technology of quantum computers.

Quantum computers are seen as an evolution of computing technology, at least for specific complex calculations that are practically unsolvable for traditional computer architecture today. Not so long ago, Google announced a big shift in the development of this technology, which caused a large investment in the industry.

But as it turned out, these investments were rather a form of FOMO, i.e. investors were afraid of missing out on an opportunity. According to Reuters magazine, Jensen Huang, director of Nvidia, said that truly usable quantum computers will be here in 20 years. That’s quite a long time, and investors reacted quite strongly to the statement of one of the most influential people in the technology industry.

The share price of companies such as Rigetti Computing, D-Wave Quantum and IonQ fell by more than 40%, and the overall market thus suffered a loss of 8 billion dollars. And Huang is not alone – a similar opinion is shared by the investment director of Spear Invest Ivana Delevska, according to which the estimate of 15-20 years is realistic.
