Ksa imposes a penalty on the organizer of illegal bingos

The Gaming Authority (Ksa) has imposed a penalty on an organizer of illegal bingos for organizing. The Ksa wants to prevent the organizer from setting up bingos again and advertising them.

For the re-offering of illegal bingos, the penalty is 13,125 euros per bingo with a maximum of 131,250. Advertising is subject to a penalty of EUR 6,562.50 per advertisement with a maximum of EUR 65,625.

Small games of chance such as bingo may only be organized by an association that has been in existence for at least three years and that has not been established to hold games of chance. The prizes to be won may not be worth more than 400 euros each and 1,550 euros in total. Furthermore, there is an advertising ban to promote illegal games of chance.

Research showed that this bingo was advertised via Facebook. Tickets cost 25 euros each, the bingo books averaged 62.50 euros and the value of the prizes was far above the maximum permitted by law. The proceeds from this type of illegal bingo can amount to tens of thousands of euros.

The Ksa believes that the chance of recurrence is high. Partly because the organizer himself says in a video on Facebook that he organizes bingo every now and then. He was reprimanded for this by the Ksa in 2022 with a formal warning, but continued nevertheless.
