You probably know the most important functions of the Google TV Streamer, but there are also options that are a bit hidden. Are you reading along?
1. Apps only mode
Google TV is quite extensive. The software does its best to choose the best films and series for you and continuously provides viewing recommendations. The most popular films and series of the moment are also highlighted by Google.
Quite useful, but maybe you don’t want all those viewing tips. You can then choose to enable the ‘Apps Only’ mode. If you do this, you will only see the apps of the streaming services that you use on the home screen, as the name of the option reveals. This looks clearer and calmer.
- From the home screen, go to the settings via the gear icon at the top right. Choose ‘All settings’;
- Go to ‘Accounts and login’ and then select your name (and email address);
- At the bottom you will see ‘Apps only’. Activate this function and choose ‘Enable’.
2. Adjust home screen
Did you know that you can easily rearrange the apps on your Google TV Streamer? This way you determine exactly which apps are at the top of the list, so that you can open them a little faster. Handy if you use certain streaming services more often. It works like this:
- Go to the list of your installed apps and choose the application you want to move;
- Press the middle button on your remote control and hold it down for a moment;
- You will now see various options, including ‘Move’. Press and then drag the app to the desired location.
3. Install apps from your phone
Also a handy option: you can install apps on the Google TV Streamer from your smartphone. This way you don’t have to search in the Play Store in Google TV itself, but you can quickly put an app on the media player from your phone.
This is very easy. Open the Play Store on your Android device and search for the app you want to download. Next to the large ‘Install’ button you will see an arrow. If you tap this, you will then see your other devices, such as your Google TV Streamer. Check it and press install.
