HBO’s Welcome to Derry series will be shown on the Max service this year.
Andy Muschietti says in an interview with Radio TU that HBO’s Welcome to Derry series is a three-season series. The first nine-episode season of the series, which acts as a prequel to the Se movies based on Stephen King’s books, will premiere this year on the Max service.
“The series is based on interludes found in the book, which tell about the investigations of the Mike Hanlon character and what has happened in Derry over the years. Whenever a disaster strikes the town, Pennywise wakes up from his sleep. The story is told in reverse order. So the first season takes place in 1962, the second takes place in 1935 and the third in 1908.”
Muschietti also says that Warner Bros. studio is satisfied with the first season of the series and is interested in doing more. A sequel has not yet been confirmed.
The Welcome to Derry series features, among others, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar and Stephen Rider. Bill Skarsgård returns to the role of the demon clown Pennywise.
The exact premiere of the Welcome to Derry series is not yet known.
