Esquerra Republicana will not finish defining the political course until mid-March, when the second phase of the Republican congress is held. But the leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, has already indicated this Saturday the path the formation intends to take and has obtained the endorsement of the national council for this. The strategy, today, is not to negotiate the 2025 budgets with the socialists until they confirm that what was previously agreed between both parties is fulfilled.
In his open speech at the meeting of the national council, brief and concise, Junqueras has made it clear to the socialists that they will not negotiate the general budgets of the State or those of the Generalitat until they see the agreements signed for the investitures of Pedro Sánchez and Salvador Illa. Specifically, Junqueras has referred to the unique financing system for Catalonia and the transfer of Rodalies to the Catalan administration. In today’s meeting that position of not sitting down to negotiate has come forward.

“We will not reach new agreements until the ones we already have are fulfilled,” said Junqueras, accompanied by the general secretary of the party, Elisenda Alamany, who was supposed to intervene and in the end did not do so. “That coincides with common sense, with the majority sense of many workers and companies,” he added right after. Likewise, the republican leader has asked other actors in society to support ERC in its demand.
“We demand compliance because we are convinced that it is useful for the majority of our country and our society. And we would like the majority of society to join us in demanding compliance with the agreements by the Generalitat and the Spanish Government,” the president of Esquerra remarked. “From the conviction that agreements are useful for good budgets,” he concluded later.
