Healthcare workers gathered in Erzurum Castle Square and held a press conference after marching with Turkish and Palestinian flags. Participants also protested the US Congress with applause.
In the statement made after the march, it was stated that doctors and health workers in Turkey continued their silent marches in order not to forget Gaza, to keep consciences alive and to show that they are against oppression.
The press release was read by Ahmet Talha Yer, a student at Atatürk University’s Faculty of Pharmacy. Yer said, ‘Today is the 75th year and 295th day of the oppression of the occupying Israel in Palestine. We sadly witness that most people continue their lives as if nothing happened, but the brutality continues with all its intensity. For this reason, we have gathered to remind ourselves and you of what we can do. Let’s take our place in this stance by doing what is necessary to be human, no matter what religion, race or political view we have.
We have been here since the places we lay were not beds but thorns. We are standing up for our brothers who are human beings beyond all identities. Yes, we, as conscientious health workers, have been continuing this action every Saturday for 37 weeks, so we keep a vigil of conscience every Saturday and never leave our hearts empty to do our best. Our motto has been the same for months: we cannot do less until we can do more. While waiting for our scrubs to turn yellow as time goes by, we are doctors who are red with blood. While working day and night to heal our patients, we are now dying too. We die one by one in every bomb, in every attack. But as doctors, we are aware that sick minds are still alive. They do not say children, they do not say elderly, they only and only murder.’
The march program also saw participants protest with applause in response to the applause given to Netayahu, the world’s greatest genocidal and murderer, at the US Congress on Wednesday, July 24.
The silent march ended after prayer.
