Try it! 3 easy ways to descale your kettle in 20 minutes

Limescale is a white chalky deposit that forms in appliances, including kettles. It appears due to hard water. Scale is made up of minerals dissolved in water. Rust particles adhere to the solid scale particles, forming a brownish mixture of scale and rust, which does not evaporate and settles at the bottom of the kettle. Over time, limescale can reduce the efficiency of your kettle.

Therefore, the device must be cleaned and maintained regularly to improve its performance and prolong its service life.

According to the experts at UK Cleaning Supplies, there are several methods for cleaning kettles. These include using natural remedies such as vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda or citric acid.

White vinegar

To descale, simply fill the kettle halfway with water and white vinegar in equal proportions (1:1). Heat the solution to a boil and leave it in the kettle for 15–20 minutes.

When the kettle has cooled, pour out the solution and rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue. After cleaning the inside of the kettle, fill it with clean water and boil it once or twice to get rid of the lingering vinegar smell.

Lemon juice and baking soda

«Mix lemon juice and baking soda in a bowl to make a paste. Make sure the mixture is thick and smooth enough. Apply the paste directly to the scale inside the kettle, using a soft brush, sponge or cloth to distribute the paste evenly. Let the lemon juice and baking soda mixture sit for 20 minutes to break down mineral deposits.“, experts recommend.

Once the paste has been allowed to work for 20 minutes, scrub the unit with a soft brush to gently remove any deposits, then rinse the kettle thoroughly.

Citric acid and water

First, pour water into the kettle. Then measure out one or two tablespoons of citric acid, add it to the kettle and stir gently.

Bring the water in the kettle to a boil and leave the solution for 15–20 minutes. When the kettle has cooled, use a soft brush to gently brush the inside of the kettle, and then rinse thoroughly several times.

Now your kettle will be clean and efficient to use again!
