The president spoke on the phone with the head of the Catholic Church, who received the highest civilian honor in the United States. According to Joe Biden, Pope Francis is a ray of faith, hope and love that illuminates the whole world, the information revealed.
During his four-year presidency, this was the first time that Biden presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom to someone with an award. As vice president, he himself received the Order of Merit from former President Barack Obama in 2017.
