Professor Bogolepova predicted a sharp increase in the number of Russians with dementia
In Russia, about 1.2 million – 1.4 million people suffer from dementia. However, the situation may seriously worsen in the coming years.
Anna Bogolepova, head of the Center for Cognitive and Psycho-Emotional Health of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), warned that by 2035 the number of Russians with dementia could triple.
“According to WHO statistics, today there are about 55 million people with dementia in the world, and every year the number of such patients is growing steadily,” the professor said in an interview with the agency “Moscow”.
In Russia, the number of patients with dementia in 10 years may reach 2 million – 3.6 million people. The expert noted that in most cases the cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease.
In this regard, Bogolepova stated the importance of timely seeking medical help in case of a noticeable deterioration in cognitive processes, loss of memory or attention.
