Google Drive gives users great freedom when managing and accessing files. This is present on Android and even on the Web, but it is on the desktop that it offers users the most. This version now has something new to be even better and, above all, faster.
Anyone who uses Google Drive will be pleased to know that Google has released a new update with a long-requested feature. This cloud service client now supports differential synchronization, which improves synchronization performance, especially for those working with large files.
A Google announced the update in a recent weekly roundup of Google Workspace updates. For those who don't know, differential synchronization happens when the app synchronizes only modified parts of a file, and not the entire file. This feature greatly reduces synchronization time when working with large files and saves bandwidth on limited networks.
We've added support for differentiated uploads to Google Drive, which means that when large files are edited, Drive desktop will now upload only the parts of the file that have changed. This highly requested feature results in much faster Drive syncs.
According to Google, differential sync in Google Drive is now available for Rapid and Scheduled Release domains, all Google Workspace Individual subscribers, and those with personal Google accounts. Anyone who wants to start using the Google Drive client on Windows or macOS must access the official website.
Google Drive isn't the only cloud storage provider with differential sync support. In fact, Google is quite behind at this point. Microsoft completed the implementation of differential sync on OneDrive in April 2020.
All the news and other changes that Google brought to Google Workspace here. In addition to differential sync, Google has introduced the ability to use Gemini to interact with PDF files, improved mentions in Google Chat, e-signature requests for PDF documents, and more.
