The work did not stop even at night.

All last night, St. Petersburg utility workers struggled with the consequences of a heavy snowfall that hit the Northern capital. According to various estimates, taking into account yesterday and tonight, up to 20 cm of precipitation fell in the city, said Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Evgeny Razumishkin.

“The main clearing of highways was carried out at night – 1,045 units of equipment and 400 manual workers were involved. Over the past 24 hours, 29.5 thousand m³ of snow was removed. During the day shift, the city’s road enterprises employed 1,060 pieces of equipment and 980 manual workers,” the vice-governor specified.

He added that snowfall in the city continues. Razumishkin promised to personally check the situation in the city districts.

Throughout the daylight hours, work will continue to clear snow, ice and snow masses hanging from the roofs of residential buildings and protruding elements of facades, drainage gutters and drainage funnels. I continue my detour around the city. We’ll see Pavlovsk and Pushkin, after which we’ll hold a city improvement headquarters with goals and objectives for the evening and night,” the vice-governor noted.

According to him, 7,478 street cleaners are engaged in cleaning sidewalks in courtyards, intra-block driveways, approaches to front doors and container sites. 827 units of small-scale mechanization are also involved in the work, and 809 roofers are involved.

In general, the situation on the roads is not easy, Razumishkin emphasized. He also asked citizens to be understanding of the columns of municipal equipment that clear the roadway. And the vice-governor instructed city services to ensure the safe movement of vehicles.
