Restoration of the facades of an ancient temple has been completed in Moscow

The Church of the Ascension in the former village of Kolomenskoye, which became part of Moscow, was built in 1532 and is a masterpiece of 16th-century architecture of world significance. Now its restoration continues – specialists have completed the next stage.

The Church of the Ascension is one of the first stone tented churches and the tallest building in Rus’ at that time – 60 meters.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in his telegram channel noted that during the restoration, specialists cleared the external walls, tidied up the basement, gallery, tent, metal parts, white stone elements, roof, doors and windows. They also updated the brickwork and decor and gilded the cross.

According to the mayor, by the end of the year it is planned to restore the interiors of the church and complete landscaping of the territory.

In 1994, the Ascension Church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
