Is it better to drink with meals or to eat first and then drink? Dr. Danilans explains 8

In the TV24 program “Uz līnijas” one of the viewers asked the question: “Is it better to drink while eating or to eat first and then drink?”

Gastroenterologist, Doctor of Medicine Anatoly Danilans explained that the idea that you should not drink while eating is a myth:

«Do as you please. Food is also a pleasure. If you like, drink at least vodka or water during meals».

Danilans also refuted another common belief: that when eating, it is necessary to follow a strict sequence of dishes – first soup, then the main course and only then dessert. According to him, there is no fundamental difference where to start the meal – with dessert or soup. Everything eaten first goes into the stomach, and only after processing – into the intestines.

«The stomach is an organ that collects all food and does not send it directly to the intestines. If the stomach mixes everything and adds acid, then what difference does it make where I started the meal if in the end everything turns out to be mixed and only then enters the intestines?»
